THE BEGINNING

everest Lincoln BABIES really began on Saturday 28th August 1999, when we scaled Everest!

Well, it wasn’t really Everest but it felt like it was!

Lincoln BABIES arranged for a team of parents, relatives and friends of children who’d received life-saving care at the Unit, to stage a continuous relay up and down Steep Hill, Lincoln until the equivalent height of Everest had been reached.

School teacher Rosie Evelings sets out on another climb In 14 hours, the team of six made 208 return journeys to travel the required 29,000 feet.

The day was a fantastic success, raising over £15,000 from donations on the street and personal and corporate sponsorship.

Most importantly, the Climbing Everest made it possible for us to pre-order a new incubators for the Special Baby Care Unit.

Shortly after, and with several other fundraising events undertaken, the first Incubator was presented to Nocton Ward on 25th October 1999.

Since then, Lincoln BABIES has continued to stage innovative fundraising events in aid of the Special Care Baby Unit. In April 2002, athletic parents and volunteers ran the 33 miles from Scunthorpe SCBU to Lincoln SCBU. In 2002, the Army took on the RAF in a 75 mile dry rowing event; Everest was conquered once again and we staged the first of our now annual BABIES Ball.

There are many many other events that have helped us raise money for the Unit and with your help, there will be more events to come.
